Young slalomists aim for Athens

Not of lot of people outside slalom know but there's been good results out of the Scottish slalom squad recently, especially the juniors.

This summer, in Europe, Fiona Pennie from Crieff came 1st and 2nd Junior lady in world cup races, and 3rd at the champs - thus gaining the top ranking position in the World. Because there are no world class facilities for training here, she has to head for Nottingham to carry on her preparation for Athens Olympics - another reason to want an AWWC in Scotland, to keep our International athletes up here.

For similiar reasons, Mark Delaney (C-1 competitor at Atlanta and Barcelona) didn't get a place to compete at Sydney. Some years ago, he chose to stay in Scotland and train rather than move to Nottingham. He's convinced that he would have got to Sydney if he had an AWWC to train on - instead, despite being British Champion, he got squeezed out at the Olympic selection event for the only C-1 place in the British Team. Mark was recently appointed National Coach in slalom.

Also, Cam and Kim Walsh have been producing good results in this year's summer races.
