Publicity Campaign Thwarted By Fuel Crisis

The worst day in the last 6 months to hold a publicity drive was Wed 13 Sept - the day the fuel crisis peaked.

The aim of the drive was to tell the world that the artificial WW course that was on everybody's TV screens during the Olympics could come to Strathclyde park - the design of the Scottish course will likely be very similiar to the succesful course at Penrith, Sydney. So we set a date a couple of days before the Olympic opening ceremony; had top paddlers lined up to talk and paddle; had set up contacts with all the national press, also talked to radio and TV; sent out press relelases, invites etc - and on the day, the journalists couldn't come because there were plenty stories closer to home, and they didn't have the petrol to get to Aberfeldy. Damn fuel crisis!

However, we had a good turnout at the Strathclyde Park press call, all from local media - 4 photographers, 1 local radio (Clan FM) and 1 small TV (Lanarkshire TV, based in Shotts). They got some good shots of Fiona Pennie on gates and Steve Rogers pulling flat water moves in his new 'Trickster'.

Thanx to -
