Location
| Strathclyde Park |
It
is proposed that the course will be sited within Strathclyde Country Park
in North Lanarkshire next to the Watersport Centre. This is adjacent to the
M74 Carlisle motorway, opposite Hamilton. The site was selected for a variety
of reasons not least that it is accessible to all of Central Scotland and
is very visible to tourists arriving from the South.
Strathclyde
Park is an established watersports centre, already familiar to the general
public with rowing, windsurfing, canoeing, pedalos, sail boats etc. It has
access, facilities, security, known water quality. Also on site are very popular
attractions like Scotland's Theme Park, hotel, camp site, restaurant visitor
centre etc.
Another Nationally important facility is just ahead of us in creation at Strathclyde Park - the National Rowing centre. This is an indoor rowing tank, where the rowers stay still and move water round a pool with their blades. Funded mainly by the good old Lottery, it is due to start construction next year. Part of the design includes a glass fronted wall that looks out over the loch.
The easiest access to the site is Junction 6 off the M74 Carlisle motorway onto the A723. Signposts then direct you to the park and the watersports centre.
